NYSED Commissioner Rosa Visits JHS

Jamestown High School welcomed New York State Education Commissioner Dr. Betty Rosa on Wednesday afternoon as part of her tour across western New York. During her visit, Dr. Rosa met with students in the school’s aviation program andalso took time to meet with student leaders representing student government, athletics, My Brother’s Keeper, and the Puerto Rican/Hispanic Youth Leadership Institute to learn more about their experiences and perspectives.

Lincoln's South Honored As September "Pillar"

Dr. Kevin Whitaker and Lincoln Elementary School Principal Katie Russo stopped by to surprise longtime music teacher Cathy South, our September “Pillar” of the Month! 🎶 A beloved educator for more than 25 years, including the last 15 at Lincoln, Mrs. South has inspired generations of students through her creativity, warmth, and passion for music.

JPS has been celebrating staff throughout the school year each week through its "Pillars of JPS" program. South was selected at random from over 100 "Pillar"nominees from September.

CHARGE Retreat
JHS Students Participate In CHARGE Retreat

Jamestown High School welcomed more than 60 student leaders from across clubs, teams, and organizations to Mission Meadows for its first-ever C.H.A.R.G.E. Retreat on Oct. 1. Centered on the theme “How can I create positive change in our school and community?”, the day featured workshops led by John Kinder of The Zone, Jeremy Mckoy, Chris Saldarriaga of UpTwnKix, and ATLAS Strategy Group, along with team-building led by Sukanya Burman Dance Studio.

Distraction-Free Schools Policy In Place

Beginning in September of 2025, students at all JPS schools will no longer be permitted to use personal devices — including smartphones, smartwatches, tablets, and Bluetooth-enabled accessories — during the instructional day.

The decision aligns with New York State Education Law Section 2803, which was adopted by the state legislature and signed into law by Gov. Kathy Hochul in May.

Remembering "Mac"

JPS is mourning the loss of James F. McElrath, Sr., beloved former principal of Jamestown High School, who passed away on July 25 at 89. Affectionately known as “Mr. Mac,” McElrath served JPS for 26 years, including 18 years as principal of JHS from 1976 until his retirement in 1994.
