Message from JPS Superintendent Dr. Bret Apthorpe
We are family!
I am so proud to be the superintendent of a wonderfully diverse school family like we have in the Jamestown Public Schools. One may hear different languages in our hallways, but you will always see common smiles everywhere you look. The Jamestown school community is close knit and very encompassing. We consider our staff, parents, grandparents, guardians and mentors all part of our extended family.
During the 2018-19 school year, you will witness a tremendous amount of work to advance opportunities for our students. This includes creating stronger alignments between curriculum and the needs of our local labor market - particularly in the areas of manufacturing and health. We want to ensure that a Jamestown High School diploma translates into our students being accepted into the nation’s finest universities, or finding immediate employment in a promising career field.
Please consider becoming involved with your local school. Children cannot have enough adults as part of their school family. It truly takes a community to raise healthy children and I invite you to consider taking an active role in your neighborhood school. Simply send the school principal an email and they will be happy to facilitate your connection to the school.
The 2018-19 school year will be one for strengthening the opportunities for our school family. I hope you consider playing a more active role in helping our students to succeed.
