Universal Prekindergarten Program
About Our Program
The JPS Universal Prekindergarten Program (UPK) includes preschool classes for 3-year-old and 4-year-old children. Classes are located at district elementary schools, community-based organizations, and at Head Start. Within our program, dedicated teachers work to ensure a safe learning environment that is developmentally appropriate for our students. Using the Creative Curriculum, learning is based around play, investigation, and 38 objectives to meet the needs of the whole child.
Curriculum and Objectives
The Creative Curriculum
All of the Jamestown UPK programs use the Creative Curriculum to support student learning through science, play, and exploration.
Interest areas are arranged in each classroom to support extended learning through action and hands-on experience.
Interest areas include Art, Discovery, Blocks, Library, Water/Sand Tables, Dramatic Play, Toys, and more.
The Creative Curriculum focuses on the learning of the whole child using 38 objectives.
The Creative Curriculum is also aligned to the NYS preschool standards.
Not only does the Creative Curriculum support social and emotional growth, but Jamestown UPK programs also use the Second Step curriculum to support student growth.
The Importance of Attendance
Attendance, right from the start of schooling, is a critical component to success.
Children benefit from routine schedules and consistency along with the traditional academic learning at school.
Mrs. Certo-Card's class comes to school for WOW Experiences like learning about signs from Fletcher Elementary School's Crossing Guard.
