I believe that each child within my classroom is UNIQUE and SPECIAL. Our classroom will be a community of learners, where the students have the opportunity to own their learning. Students in Room 42 are directly involved in all aspects of our classroom rules and learning. I see my students as equal members of our classroom community. Therefore, I require that each student be present and willing to work.
Respect
1.) Always show respect for your peers and adults. This means thinking before you speak or act. Always keep in the back of your mind "am I being my best self?"
2.) Respect our school and community. We are very lucky to live in such a great community, and it is our job to keep it clean and taken care of.
Responsibility
1.) It is the adult's responsibility to love each child in our school and help him/her to become successful. It is the child's responsibility to be ready to work and learn.
2.) Be prepared for class: have your materials, a good work ethic, and a smile.
Safety
1.) In all parts of the school and classroom, be aware of others. Make sure that all of your actions will keep yourself and your classmates safe.
2.) Take care of yourself. Eat a healthy breakfast, lunch, and dinner. If you are sick, you need to rest. If you are having a bad day, talk to an adult or friend. You cannot be ready to learn unless you are mentally and physically healthy.

In addition to curriculum, your child will be learning about many different character traits throughout this school year. My goal is for each of my 4th graders to be prepared for the expectations in middle school. Discuss with your child the following character traits and challenge him/her to find ways to show these traits at home and in the community!
Honesty
Perserverance
Integrity
Respect
Confidence
Appreciation
Tolerance
Committment
Our classroom expectations follow that of the school's PBIS program.
