Mrs. Ricker

Welcome to third grade! My name is Mrs. Ricker.  I have been teaching at Lincoln Elementary since 1999.  I have always taught third or fourth grade.  Those grade levels and fun and challenging as the students prepare for middle school.

I live in Lakewood with my husband, three children and two dogs.  We love attending their athletic contests and events that they participate in at school and in the community.

Third grade is in exciting year in elementary school.  It is a year of independence and growth in reading, writing and math in preparation for middle school.  We close read several books throughout the year focusing on main idea and details.  We also respond to what we read through writing short responses and paragraphs.  Our writing is often fun and interesting by making bookmarks and posters.

ELA Modules:

Accessing Reading and Books Around the World

Becoming Frog Experts

Capturing a Reader's Imagination through Peter Pan

Accessing Clean Water Around the World

In math, we solve many world problems through application of multiplication, division, addition and subtraction.  We also study area, measuring time and geometry.

In the fall, we study lifecycles, especially butterflies as we witness the metamorphosis of live caterpillars in our classroom!  We also study buoyancy and how objects float. During our frog module, we have a frog expert visit and bring his extensive collection of live poison dart frogs.  The Audubon visits several times each year to share their knowledge of the natural world.

I hope to bring joy and excitement to learning every day.  We work hard, but feel proud and accomplished at the end of the school year!
