Megan's Law

  • In accordance with the New York State Sex Offender Registration Act, also known as Megan’s Law, law enforcement agencies periodically provide notifications to school districts regarding registered sex offenders who may reside or intend to reside within the school district. The Jamestown City School District supports the New York State Department of Criminal Justice Services and law enforcement agencies in their effort to inform the community of the presence of individuals who may present a danger, particularly to children.

    In the event that the District receives specific information from law enforcement about registered sex offenders, the Superintendent may disclose or further disseminate such information as appropriate to staff, parents, or community residents who have a need to be notified of this information in order to maintain student safety.

    In addition, the New York State Division of Criminal Justice Services maintains an online Sex Offender Registry as a searchable directory of those individuals who have been identified as Level 2 (medium risk) or Level 3 (high risk) offenders:
