About JPS
For over 150 years, Jamestown Public Schools has been known across New York State as providing an excellent, comprehensive education in a student-focused environment to its 4,500 students. The district serves students from universal pre-kindergarten through 12th grade at five elementary schools, three middle schools, and Jamestown High School, where graduating classes hover around 300 students. The district also utilizes the Raymond J. Fashano Technical Academy and the Innovation Center at R.R. Rogers School for specialized programs.
Formal education in Jamestown dates back to the completion of the Jamestown Union School and Collegiate Institute — now Jamestown High School — in 1867. The city of Jamestown’s public schools were organized in 1887, with Samuel G. Love serving as its first superintendent. The name of Love, as well as his first five successors — Rovillus R. Rogers, Milton J. Fletcher, George A. Persell, C.V. Bush, and Carlyle C. Ring — are found on six of our school buildings.
In that time, JPS has benefitted from a caring and collaborative school community that includes high achieving and engaged students, supportive families, a superior faculty, and amazing community collaborations.
The district holds high expectations for academic achievement but also believes in the social and emotional health of our students through fine and performing arts offerings, athletic programming and numerous extracurricular activities and clubs to create well-rounded students.
