The JHS and JPS band programs combine precision, discipline, and artistry. Students can begin learning how to play a musical instrument as early as the 5th grade and throughout middle school before graduating to symphonic or concert bands at Jamestown High School. Our Concert Band has performed across the country and even graced the stage of Carnegie Hall.

Choral education in Jamestown Public Schools begins in middle school and continues through high school, offering students inclusive, skill-building opportunities in group vocal performance across a variety of musical styles. Each middle school has choral ensembles to help prepare students in grades 5-8 for high school music. In addition to the A Cappella Choir, students in grades 9-12 can participate in Mixed Chorus at Jamestown High School. 

Founded in 1924, the A Cappella Choir has become one of the most iconic elements of JPS. Known for its rich sound and deep-rooted traditions, the choir performs annually at the historic Vespers service, celebrated its 100th anniversary in 2024, and has toured internationally. The ensemble fosters both musical excellence and a deep sense of community among generations of singers.

JPS students also have the opportunity to develop their skills in orchestral music. The orchestra program, offered from middle school through high school, allows string players to perform classical and contemporary pieces while building strong ensemble skills. Upon their ascension to Jamestown High School, musicians can participate in concert, chamber, and full orchestras.

At every JPS elementary school, students receive general music instruction focused on music literacy, creativity, and cultural appreciation. This foundation equips students with the skills to pursue vocal and instrumental music as they progress through school.

General Music classes at the middle school level give students the opportunity to explore music as performers, listeners, and creators. Through singing, playing instruments, composing, and studying a wide range of musical styles, students develop essential skills in rhythm, melody, and expression.

Each year, Jamestown High School presents a full-scale musical production that showcases student talent in acting, singing, pit orchestra, stage crew, and technical design. These productions have earned regional recognition from Shea’s Performing Arts Center in Buffalo, including multiple nominations through the Shea’s Performing Arts Center High School Musical Theatre Awards, a program that honors excellence in Western New York high school theatre.

With five New York State Field Band Conference Championship titles (1992, 2002, 2014, 2015, 2018), the Jamestown High School Marching Band is a source of community pride. The band has performed at the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade, the Tournament of Roses Parade, Walt Disney World, and the FedEx Orange Bowl—earning national recognition for its excellence in performance. The band joined the Lakeshore Marching Band Association in 2024.

The JHS Winter Guard brings the art of indoor performance to life through choreographed routines with flags, rifles, sabres, and expressive dance. The varsity guard (Express) and the junior varsity  guard (Caboose) supports students from beginners to experienced performers. Instructors lead structured rehearsals and extensive competition seasons, including hosting and participating in North East Color Guard Circuit (NECGC) shows at the high school.
