Jamestown Public Schools Attendance Policy
Approved by JPS Board of Education on November 5, 2019
Student Attendance and Course Credit
The District believes that classroom participation is related to, and affects, a student's performance and grasp of the subject matter. Unsatisfactory attendance is likely to impact a student’s final grade as a result of the lost opportunity to participate in and benefit from classroom instruction.
Consequently, for each marking period, a certain percentage of a student's final grade may be based on classroom participation as well as the student's performance on homework, tests, papers, projects, etc., as determined by the building administrator or classroom teacher.
Upon returning to school following an absence, tardiness, or early departure, it will be the responsibility of the student to consult with his or her teacher(s) regarding arrangements to make up missed work, assignments, and/or tests in accordance with the time schedule specified by the teacher.
Any student who believes that he/she has been denied course credit solely because of absenteeism may submit an appeal to the principal, who shall review the student’s attendance and academic records to determine whether the student should be awarded credit for the course. The student may appeal the principal’s decision to the Superintendent.
