JHS Announces Preliminary Plans for 2020 Graduation
Jamestown High School’s 2020 Graduation Ceremony will take place at Strider Field on Thursday, June 25th with a rain date of Friday, June 26th. Please remember to check for a change in the date should the weather on Thursday make it unacceptable to hold the ceremony. The updates will be on the "jpsny.org" site; through the Remind app, and the Jamestown Public Schools and Jamestown High School Facebook pages. JHS will try to announce any potential change to the ceremony date on Thursday, if necessary, by 4 or 5 p.m.
The district is planning a ceremony that adheres to safety requirements for social distancing and limits on gatherings. Jamestown High School has distributed information to seniors about the details and procedures for the ceremony. If any senior did not pick up their graduation packet, please contact JHS at 483-3470 or Mr. Williams at firstname.lastname@example.org to make arrangements to pick one up.
The diploma ceremony will be streamed live. To get the link at the time of the event (Thurs. 6/25 @ 6:30 p.m. with a rain date of Friday, 6/26 @ 6:30 p.m.) people will have to go to: jpsny.org/graduation.
The graduation speeches will be recorded and broadcast on YouTube on Wednesday, June 24, in the late afternoon. Again, the link to the graduation speeches will be found at: jpsny.org/graduation
“We gathered input from our students and their families to try to put together a graduation ceremony that also follows all social distancing and limits on any gatherings requirements due to COVID-19,”said JHS Principal Dana Williams. “Our main concern is the safety and well-being of our students and their families while at the same time, celebrating their accomplishment of each student graduating from JHS. We are working on the specific details for the ceremony and will be sending out that information to students and parents.”
In addition to the ceremony at Strider Field, graduation speeches will be recorded in advance and aired on JPS’ website/social media on Wednesday, June 24th.
“With all that has happened to our seniors this year, we wanted to ensure that they are able to celebrate their graduation in a safe and meaningful way,” said JPS Superintendent Dr. Bret Apthorpe. “I know that Mr. Williams and his staff have worked extremely hard to develop a plan that allows every student to celebrate their accomplishment in a significant way, but also keeping within the social distancing and gathering restrictions required at this time. We are all very proud of the JHS Class of 2020 and want to ensure that their accomplishment is recognized, but in the safest way possible.”
