COVID-19 GUIDANCE

The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) and New York State Department of Health (NYSDOH) have updated guidance for when to stay home and when to return to normal activities after respiratory infections including COVID-19, influenza, and RSV. Our schools will be observing this guidance.

Per the CDC, a 5-day isolation period is no longer necessary for individuals who test positive for COVID-19. If you test positive for COVID-19 or have symptoms of any respiratory illness (fever, chills, fatigue, cough, runny nose, and headache), you may return to school or work after 24 hours if your symptoms are improving and you have no fever without fever-reducing medication.

When you return to school or work, please wear a mask and avoid close contact with others for at least 5 days.

If individuals develop a fever or start to feel worse, they should stay home and away from others again. They should use the same criteria for returning to normal activities as when they first had symptoms and take added precautions over the next 5 days.

If you have any questions surrounding this new guidance, please contact Jill Muntz, JPS Coordinator of School Health Services, at jill.a.muntz@jpsny.org
