JAMESTOWN, N.Y. —The Jamestown Public Schools family is mourning the loss of a Jefferson Middle School fifth-grade student who was fatally injured. The student, who passed away on Wednesday evening, was a beloved member of the Jefferson and previously the Lincoln Elementary school communities.

“We are saddened to receive this terrible news and our sincere condolences are with the student’s family and friends,” said Dr. Kevin Whitaker, JPS Superintendent. “This is a tragic loss for the family, the Jefferson and Lincoln staff, and for all of us in the Jamestown Public Schools. A student’s passing has a lasting impact on those close to them and our school district stands ready to offer support to students, staff, and families however needed.”

“Our Jefferson family is devastated by the loss of this student,” said Jefferson Middle School Principal Katie Zwald. “His presence will be missed by all who knew and loved him. Our sympathy and thoughts are with the student’s family, friends, and loved ones.” 

“The Lincoln Staff would like to express our deepest condolences to the family of this student,” said Katie Russo, Principal of Lincoln Elementary School. “We had the privilege and honor of teaching him for 6 years. He was a bright light with a sparkly personality and the staff at Lincoln will miss him tremendously.”

JPS recognizes that this may be a difficult time for our students and staff. Jefferson Middle School’s Crisis Intervention Team, made up of professionals trained to help with the needs of students, parents, and school personnel at difficult times such as this, will be made available to those who may need it. Additionally, our counselors are available for any student who may need or want help or any type of assistance surrounding this loss.
