Dear Families & Staff,
We are writing to update you regarding the recent cybersecurity incident involving PowerSchool, the company that provides our student information system.
As we shared with you a few weeks ago, PowerSchool notified our district on January 7 that they experienced a cybersecurity incident that resulted in unauthorized access to some personal information of both student and staff members. Unfortunately, Jamestown Public Schools is among the many affected school districts across the country.
PowerSchool informed us that the data accessed includes staff names and email addresses, as well as student names, dates of birth, and parent contact details such as address, email, and phone numbers. We can confirm that social security numbers or financial information were not accessed, as we do not keep this information in PowerSchool. While PowerSchool has assured us that there is currently no evidence of identity theft related to this incident, we continue to take this situation very seriously.
PowerSchool is offering two years of complimentary identity protection services to students and staff whose information was involved. For adult students and staff, this offer will also include two years of complimentary credit monitoring services. In the coming weeks, Experian (on behalf of PowerSchool) will distribute direct email notifications to involved individuals (or their parent/guardian, as applicable) for whom PowerSchool has sufficient contact information.
Whether or not you receive an email, you may visit PowerSchool’s website for answers to Frequently Asked Questions, and to learn how to activate the offering from Experian:

Our school district remains committed to protecting the privacy of our students and staff. We will continue to monitor this situation closely and will provide further updates as needed.
If you have any questions, you may call PowerSchool’s dedicated toll-free call center for customer assistance at 833-918-9464.
Sincerely,
Jessie Joy
