Workplace Violence Prevention

Workplace Violence Prevention

New York State Labor Law Section 27-b requires public employers, including school districts, to develop and implement programs to prevent and minimize workplace violence and help ensure the safety of public employees.

The purpose of a Workplace Violence Prevention Program is to address potential workplace violence, prevent workplace violence from occurring to the fullest extent possible, and set forth procedures to follow when such incidents occur. The goals of the Workplace Violence Prevention Program are to:

  1. reduce the probability of threats or acts of violence in the workplace; and
  2. ensure that any incident, complaint, or report of workplace violence is taken seriously and dealt with in a timely manner.
