Board of Education Appoints New Jefferson Principal
The Jamestown Board of Education appointed Leslie Melquist as the new Jefferson Middle School principal at tonight’s meeting. Mrs. Melquist will be taking over for Chad Bongiovanni who will become the JPS Director of Student Services.
“We are so excited to have Mrs. Melquist as the principal at Jefferson Middle School,” said Tina Sanstrom, JPS Chief of Schools. “Her experience as a teacher and principal at the middle and high school levels as well as her leadership skills make her an asset to the Jefferson community.”
Mrs. Melquist has been the assistant principal at Jamestown High School since 2014. She was also the assistant principal at Persell Middle School, a biology teacher at Jamestown High School and a science teacher at Jefferson and Persell.
Mrs. Melquist obtained her master’s degree in Educational Leadership from Edinboro University, her master’s degree in Curriculum and Instruction from SUNY Fredonia and her bachelor’s degree in biology from SUNY Fredonia. Mrs. Melquist has her NYS Professional Certification as a School Building Leader.
“I am excited for the opportunity to become part of the Jefferson Middle School community and I am looking forward to continuing the path of excellence, working in collaboration with teachers, students, and families,” said Mrs. Melquist. “I have truly enjoyed my time at Jamestown High School and will miss the students, staff and families that I have had the privilege of working with while at JHS.”
Mrs. Melquist lives in Jamestown with her husband, Todd, and their four children. They support school events at all levels, from elementary to high school. She is a member of St. James Parish, Co-President of the Persell Middle School PTA and Co-Advisor of Persell Ski Club with her husband.
