Jamestown Board of Education Appoints JPS Principals

The Jamestown Board of Education appointed four principals at tonight’s meeting due to the retirement of principals at Persell Middle School and Bush, Fletcher and Love Elementary Schools. Dr. Mike McElrath was named the principal of Persell Middle School. Kate Benson will serve as Bush Elementary School principal. Amanda Sischo was named as principal of Fletcher Elementary School and Connie Foster will be the new principal at Love Elementary School.

“We will miss Mr. Cammarata, Mr. Bracey, Mrs. DeJoy and Mrs. Hartling as they have served our district for many years and we can’t thank them enough for their dedication to our JPS family,” said JPS Chief of Schools Tina Sandstrom. “But I am also happy to announce the appointment of these four principals who have the right experiences to help ensure long-term success of each school. Their leadership experiences and their knowledge of Jamestown Public Schools will make for a smooth transition at each school.”

Dr. Mike McElrath, who was the principal at the Success Academy, will be reassigned to serve as Persell Middle School Principal. In addition to his extensive principal experience at the Success Academy and Jamestown High School, Dr. McElrath also has his Doctorate in middle level education and he formerly served as the JPS Director of Middle Level Education.

Connie Foster will serve as Love Elementary School principal. Mrs. Foster has approximately 20 years of experience as both an assistant principal at Washington Middle School and as Ring Elementary School principal. Mrs. Foster is also bilingual in Spanish, which will be an asset to the Love School community.

Amanda Sischo will serve as the Fletcher Elementary School Principal. Mrs. Sischo is currently the assistant principal at Persell Middle School. She has a strong background, experience and knowledge in elementary education and building leadership.

Upon Mr. Bracey’s retirement at the end of November, Kathryn Benson will serve as Bush Elementary School principal. Mrs. Benson is currently the assistant principal at Washington Middle School, where she has demonstrated effective leadership skills, knowledge of instruction and collaboration with the school community. Mrs. Benson held a position as an instructional coach in her previous district.
