Statement Abbott & Whitaker

Statement from Jametown Board of Education President Paul Abbott & JPS Superintendent Dr. Kevin Whitaker

We are very much aware and sensitive to the issues and concerns related to racial  equity and justice, both locally and nationally. In light of these events, it is important that we reaffirm our continuing commitment to review our policies and practices to ensure equitable opportunities for our students. In doing so, we will continue in our endeavor to provide an outstanding education and a safe space for all staff, students and families.

Our schools serve students who represent significant diversity in race, ethnicity, gender, religion, and socio-economic status. Our students have different life experiences that bring unique perspectives to their participation in school and in the community. We seek to affirm and support our students on their pathway to productive citizenship.

We encourage the involvement of staff, students, parents and community members in our effort to maintain a safe and supportive school climate where students can learn and focus in a respectful, welcoming, considerate, and caring environment.

By working together as a school family, we will create lasting change. It is our collective responsibility to be part of the solution. We assure you that our District will continue to welcome feedback, reflect on various perspectives, and take positive action.
